The Italian ministry for infrastructure and transport identified a number of strategic territorial platforms in the process of building a preliminary national strategic framework. The 'strategic territorial platforms' or 'piattaforme territoriali strategiche' are 'territorial critical masses'. These Platforms are going to be used as the framework in which the government will concentrate infrastructural investments, to be supported by the European Strutcural Funds for the period 2007-2013. Identification of the strategic territorial platforms near Ancona
The identification of strategic territorial platforms took place through indicators provided by different national administrations and through experimental activities. The principle criteria were:
The strategic territorial platforms combined with the network links in the MEDOCC Interreg IIIB programs
The selection process produced three platforms:
Trans-national platforms are situated along the trans-European corridors. They integrate Italy into the European and extra-European system.
National platforms are situated along the Tyrrhenian-Adriatic cross section. They support the links between trans-European networks, ports and the national territorial infrastructure.
Interregional platforms complete and integrate the national platform thus supporting a polycentric development and the territorial balance.
During the Connected Cities events in Ancona the national platform will be the main focus, in particularly the axis Lazio-Umbria-Marche.
